Welcome to the Japanese Cultural CentreThe Japanese Cultural Centre (JCC) is an educational organisation aimed at providing lessons and demonstrations of aspects of Japanese Culture. We have a particular emphasis on programs for schools, for students of all ages. Using demonstrations and interactive lessons, students learn about a variety of Japanese Cultural items, such as Tea Ceremony, Origami, Kite Flying and Games, Japanese Instruments, Kimono wear and Traditional Dances. Koto (a 6 foot long, Japanese 13 stringed harp) or Shakuhachi (bamboo flute) performances are also offered.
The JCC was formed in 1987 by Lauren Stephenson and Akiko Yamada, to spread the knowledge and understanding of Japanese Culture in Australia. Lauren has played the Koto since graduating university, and Akiko is a qualified Tea Ceremony hostess. Carl Rathus is another presenter of Japanese cultural activities, and plays the Shakuhachi. Upon this base of knowledge, other teachers of Japanese culture have joined and presented programs to schools, universities, functions and other events. For more information or to enquire about the services the Japanese Cultural Centre can offer for your event or organisation, please contact us. |
